Notice of proposed winding up of the National Body and Notice of Extraordinary General Meeting
Members and affiliated Branches are hereby advised that the National Committee of the Australasian Order of Old Bastards has unanimously resolved to commence the process for the winding up of the National Body of the Australasian Order of Old Bastards.
Background
This decision has been reached following careful consideration of the ongoing viability and future sustainability of the National Body, including the following matters:

Going Forward
The National Committee invites any Branch or member who does not support the winding up of the National Body, and who is prepared to nominate for and actively serve in an Executive position on the National Committee, to formally advise the National Committee of their intention. Written advice of intention to seek nomination for an Executive position is requested no later than 30 June 2026.
The AGM will be called for August 7, 2026 and notice issued in the usual way. Following the AGM the Extraordinary General Meeting will take place for the purpose of passing the required resolution to wind up the National incorporated body which requires a three fourths (3/4ths) majority of members present at the meeting. Below is the notice of EGM.
This decision has been reached following careful consideration of the ongoing viability and future sustainability of the National Body, including the following matters:
- The number of official Branches has declined significantly and currently stands at nine official Branches and one unofficial Branch.
- It is anticipated that the number of active Branches will further reduce to approximately seven or eight Branches by the end of the current financial year.
- Revenue available to support the operation of Head Office has declined substantially, notwithstanding that overheads have remained minimal and have relied heavily upon the goodwill and voluntary support of the National Administrator and Landlord.
- Continued difficulty has been experienced in attracting new members willing to participate in, and undertake responsibilities associated with, positions on the National Executive.
- The membership demographic continues to age, with limited growth in new membership.
Implications for Branches
In the event that the National Body is wound up:
- Individual Branches may continue to operate independently and autonomously.
- Branches may elect to register independently as charitable organisations for the purpose of receiving tax deductible donations, where appropriate.
- Branches not already incorporated are encouraged to consider becoming incorporated associations in order to provide appropriate legal protection for executive members and office bearers.
